Lessons
I cater my lessons to every student’s individual goals and interests. What is most engaging to them is what I prioritize. Typically I start with a lesson book to address the fundamentals, and as the lessons progress I dive into the music the student is most interested in playing. Each student is unique, and that’s what I find so enjoyable about being a teacher. Whether a student aspires to learn contemporary music, soundtracks or video game music, or they desire a more structured approach in classical music and music theory, I offer it all.
I began taking private music lessons at the age of ten. I primarily studied classical music and later incorporated popular music while being taught by teachers Brad Gragilla and John Conahan. With additional vocal and music theory training from high school, I entered Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance to expand on these studies. I chose the major of Music Theory with a Concentration in Piano and found myself following the tutelage of esteemed Professor Maria del Pico Taylor. Her guiding hand opened new doors of musical understanding, and her wisdom surrounding the technical approach of Dorothy Taubman, with whom she studied, was invaluable. I have now taken my experience into the working world and have been teaching independently for over three years.
Throughout my teaching journey so far, I have had the privilege of instructing a diverse range of students spanning from four to sixty years old. I have worked with the most basic beginners and with truly experienced performers, as well as those with learning accommodations and disabilities. I firmly believe that it is never too late to start learning music.
